About the Choir

The unique characteristic of ExeVox is the joy which the members take from singing a wide-ranging variety of music, classical and secular.  At any concert by ExeVox you are as likely to hear Bach and Byrd as Gershwin, Whitacre and the Beatles.

ExeVox is a chamber choir of around 20 singers recruited on the basis of personal recommendation and drawn from all corners of Devon and Dorset.

ExeVox performs three or four concerts a year :  these are mainly a cappella but once a year they are joined by the Divertimento string quintet to perform larger-scale works such as Faure’s Requiem, the Vivaldi ‘Gloria’, Mozart ‘Requiem’ and Handel’s ‘Four Coronation Anthems’.  Soloists are always taken from the choir and the choir is often broken up into sub-sets to vary performances.

Concerts are held mainly in Devon churches and almost always in support of local charities.  In previous years ExeVox have performed in Belgium and Italy and have twice toured in Mirepoix in the south of France.

Throughout its existence ExeVox has been successful in raising funds for local and national charities including Age UK, Hospiscare, the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Carers’ Association as well as in aid of a number of Devon’s beautiful churches.  Four ExeVox sopranos recently joined the 12km “Starlight Walk” in support of Hospiscare.

The choir is managed by a group of elected Trustees aided by ex officio volunteers.

The choir is available for functions and has wept along with the bride at many a wedding!  Please see below for contact details.

"We want to thank you for singing at our daughter’s wedding. We were amazed by the beautiful sound of the choir. It filled the church and helped to make the service very special for us all."
